About the Ads

If you have looked around our index page lately, you may have noticed a subtle advertisement on the bottom of the index page, below all the news. What's this? Here's a little explanation that will help you understand these ads and the reason for their existence.

What are they for?
These ads are by Google. Originally, we added them to cover the site's finances each year. Since the costs for this year are covered (thanks everyone who clicked!) we decided that we should still keep them up and use the money for a good cause. Every time we complete a certain goal, we will donate to a new cause. All organizations donated to are larger organizations that are trustworthy.

How do these ads work?
Its pretty complicated, but in basis, money is earned each time someone clicks on the ads. However, if you click the same ad multiple times, it will not count. You have to refresh the ad. We do not earn a set amount per click. It depends on the ad and if you have clicked before. Also, we are still figuring out the system (google doesn't tell you this, of course, else it would be easy to trick them!). "Power clicking" does not work, though (obviously xD). Please only click on ads if you are interested in the link.

What is the current project?
Give a Panda room to grow
We are undertaking this project through WWF, one of the worlds largest conservation organizations and has many projects to help protect nature all around the world.
The Giant Panda is one of the most loved animals in the world. It is, however, also one of the most threatend. There are only about 1600 animals left in the world! Did you know that a giant panda can consume 12-38 kg of bamboo a day to meet its energy requirements? 38kg! By comparison, my bunny weighed about 3-4.
What this project does is create more land for the Pandas to live on, with lots of bamboo to sappel that great hunger!

What do I get out of it?
As such, nothing materialistic. You know that you supported this cause and it only takes a few moments to click. You are in no way forced to do so - you can enjoy our content without having to click any of the ads.

How much has been raised so far?
This is updated every few days so it may be off by a few precent -- please excuse that.

Past Projects
On April 17th, 2007 we completed our goal of raising enough money to pay for the maintance of a Titi Monkey Bridge. The transfer will take some time as google sends all payments in check form. I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who helped. Below, you can read the old information ;).
Currently, we are raising money to be able to pay for the maintanace of a Titi Monkey bridge in Manuel Antonio. Titi Monkeys (as the one you see on the picture; curtesy of www.gapadventures.com) are endangered -- less than 1500 of these monkeys are still alive. The leading cause of death is an electric shock when these little critters try to run on power lines. Inorder for these monkeys to cross the road safely, money bridges are being built in the area. These cost 100$ to maintaine, which is were we come in. Hopefully, we will be able to raise enough money to sponsor a monkey bridge! More information to this project and others like it can be found at Kids Saving the Rainforest

Schools for Africa
This project was completed on the 21st of July with all your support. Thank you everyone for your kind support -- without you it would not have been possible.
To many, school sounds like that annoying, boring thing you have to go to on most weekdays. However, over 115 million school-aged children are not in school. This decreases their chances of a good future drastically. Many do not know how to read or write, especially girls. The main reasons why children are not in school is that school uniforms and school materials. Also, schools are somtimes so far away from the villages that parents worry about the safety of their children, espeically girls. What this creates in called the Poverty Trap. Poor parents cannot send their children to school because of a lack of money. These children grow up to be young adults without any education. This means they often only get low-paying jobs or none at all. They end up even poorer, and have absolutely no chance at sending their children to schools, which means the same future awaits them.
It is also proven that education improves general health, helps revent AIDS and HIV and gives children a better chance at a good future.
We are going to be supporting the UNICEF organisation. This is the world's largest non-profit child-care and rights organisation. You can feel free to browse around that site for more information on this project. Photo: © UNICEF South Africa/2005/Josie
