Installing Cutenews
For many of you who start a site, staff is an absolute necessity. But how do they share their latest creations with your visitors when it's completely unsafe to give out your password? Cutenews allows staff to post updates without having to access the site's database. This is a guide on how to install Cutenews so that your site can become more popular.
To even think about installing Cutenews, you must have a website host that supports PHP. Most of the pages in Cutenews are made solely from PHP and will not function if your host does not run the scripts. Freewebs does not support PHP for free users, premium users on the other hand enjoy all the PHP scripts they want. Before downloading Cutenews, find a host that suits your situation and supports PHP.
To download Cutenews, just click here. Don't worry, the program is free, although you can register officially for a paid price. Download the latest version of Cutenews, the link should be near the bottom of the page. A window should pop up and you need to click Save and save it into your personal folder (if you're sharing the computer with other people). The downloaded file should be a Zip file and should say Cutenews.1.4.5 or whatever the version happens to be. To unzip the file and get into the actual data you've downloaded, you need an unzipping program such as Winzip. Most computers should already have a file unzipper, but if you don't, you can search for one and download it (make sure you speak with the owner of the computer before you do anything dangerous).
Once you've unzipped the file, unzip it and bring it out into your main folder and delete the original zip file (that should be empty now). Then go to your website host and create a folder from your main directory named cutenews. So if your website was 'www.myneosite.com', your Cutenews directory should now be 'www.myneosite.com/cutenews'.
Inside your Cutenews directory, create new folders according to the names given in your downloaded Cutenews file. As I recall, there should be folders called Data and Inc etc. but mine's the old version so I don't know if it's the same anymore, but you get the idea. Once you've created those folders in your host, it's time to upload the actual file pages into your cutenews directory. Upload them exactly as they are in your downloaded file; if the pages are in Data, then you have to upload them into the file named Data and so on.
Uploading could take a while so be patient because it's all worth it in the end. When all pages have been uploaded, click on index.php (should be right there when you enter your Cutenews directory) and follow the instructions given. Also, read the guides carefully before doing anything because you could end up screwing up the whole Cutenews system that you just took forever to upload.
For more help with using Cutenews after installation, visit the Cutephp forums, it should be really helpful. If you're still confused about the process, feel free to contact me through email. Make sure you are specific in your question so I can answer straight away. Please do not ask me about anything after the installation process because it's all there in the forums.
